Edelrid OHM Assisted Braking Device
Provides am assisted-braking resistor to increase rope friction when there is a large weight difference between belayer and lead climber.
This device for a single rope will provide assisted-braking resistor to increase rope friction when there is a large weight difference between belayer and lead climber. In the event of a fall, the OHM increases the amount of rope friction so that a lighter belayer can hold a heavier lead climber without difficulty.
The OHM is attached at the first bolt in the safety chain and if a lead climber falls at the first bolt, the OHM will significantly reduce the risk of a possible ground fall.
The OHM is designed so that when paying out rope to a lead climber there is no additional friction. The benefit of the OHM is that the belayer requires significantly less hand braking force to arrest a fall and lowering a heavier climber will be much easier to control.
The recommended weight difference between the lead climber and the belayer) is 10 – 40 kg and the minimum weight requirement of belayer is 40 kg.
